 “An invisible thread connects those who are destined to meet, regardless of time, place or circumstance. The thread may stretch or tangle, but it will never break. May you be open to each thread that comes into your life . . . and may you weave them into a brilliant and beautiful life.”

Last fall, while in NY for a blogging conference, I met a young woman named Ally Kirkpatrick. We spoke briefly, exchanged contact information and went our separate ways.

A few months later she called to tell me that she had read how my 30-day walk across Manhattan had redefined my career. She went on to say that it had inspired her to pursue a dream of her own — of writing a screenplay. She asked permission to include my story.

I was stunned, flabbergasted and . . . OK, my ego blew up like a damn balloon.

The rest is history. My life is now inextricably intertwined with hers. Her dream is now mine. I’d love to help this young woman succeed.

Much like any entrepreneur, young screenwriters have to go through tedious steps in order to succeed. They have to build solid business plans as well as the right creative team. They have to raise capital as well as market awareness.

Ally has an impressive resume. She studied film acting and directing with Anthony Abeson in New York, and classical acting at Oxford with The British American Drama Academy. As a writer, Ally was awarded an Artists Grant to the Vermont Studio Center. She then submitted her idea for this project and was awarded a fellowship at the highly competitive Virginia Center for the Creative Arts. She has built a strong network by participating in workshops at Barnard College/Columbia University and her alma mater, American University. She will be attending the Sundance Shorts Lab in New York this July to develop her project, as well as a week-long Full Spectrum Storytelling Intensive taught through Uniondocs and AIR Media Works Intensive.

As you can see, Ally has approached this project very judiciously.

Presently she is raising grassroot support through a crowdfunding site called Kickstarter. Her initial goal of $5000 must be met by June 30th. She has 6 more days to raise an additional $1600.

Here’s where I ask for your help. It takes only a few steps – every dollar will be greatly appreciated.

4. When on her page, watch the video.
5. If you would like to contribute, press “Manage your Pledge.”

I hope you’ll be open to becoming part of this project . . . having YOUR thread woven into this story will only make Ally’s story more brilliant and beautiful.
