a friend’s letter

I want to share a note from a dear friend. I’m so humbled by the outpouring of love and support I have received. This has brought me so much joy, in so many ways. Thank you, G, for this kind note:

Hi Lisa –
I had a few quiet moments this afternoon with both boys off on trips, so I sat down at my piano to just indulge myself. The first piece I played was “New York, New York” and I thought of you. I am so proud of you for taking that step and heading to the city. Even though it may turn out to be different from what you originally planned, you will have a great life experience. If it turns into a long-term adventure, what a wonderful thing. If not, you will always have it to remember and it will have changed your life. So hit it boldly and confidently with no regrets.

What a great mom you are. We all know that it is a tough job with lots of heartache and doubt. And joy. Your openness and honesty (and humor) about teenagers is refreshing and reassuring. Now it’s time for those of us still on the journey to watch you step away and move toward fulfilling a long-held dream. You will, no doubt, inspire others to be bold and intentional about their own lives. Mine included.

I send you my best wishes and hope that your time in New York is more than your heart ever dreamed. We will be following along on your blog and rooting for you every step of the way.

All the best and take good care.

Fondest regards,
G.

New York, New York (read the words first, turn up the volume, then hit this link. It’ll make your day!)
Start spreading the news,
I’m leaving today.
I wanna be a part of it, New York, New York
These vagabond shoes are longing to stray
and step around the heart of it, New York, New York
I want to wake up in a city that doesn’t sleep
To find I’m king of the hill, top of the heap.
My little town blues are melting away
I’ll make a brand new start of it in old New York.
If I can make it there,
I’d make it anywhere
It’s up to you!
New York, New York.
