Officially in training.

I hate to exercise.

I hate it. I hate it. I hate it. But because I DO want to be able to meet my goal and be physically able to see every inch of Manhattan, I better get in shape by June. Today was my day to start.

You see, I’m the type of person who’s all about efficiency. Why take 30 minutes out of my day if I can’t bill for it, mark it off a list, or put it in a status report.

For my trip I’ve made a list and schedule for all the items I need to do, buy or learn before I leave in June. I have scheduled myself to post on my blog twice weekly, add 50 followers on Facebook per week, learn A, B and C about mobile media, research iPhones and figure out all the apps I’ll need. On my calendar I have set aside two hours, twice weekly for Lynda.com lessons on tagging, plugins and how to fuel viral videos. Let’s not forget the research that needs to be done on the neighborhoods I’ll be walking. Nowhere on that schedule will you find an exercise routine.

I admit there are some tangible benefits. Doctors say it’s good for your heart and my husband says I’m easier to live with, but I just absolutely cannot make myself do it.

Frank, my great walking pal

I finally did it today. I walked 1.2 miles. It was a beautiful day, with trees and flowers beginning to bloom, plus I got to see several neighbors I’ve missed seeing. A trip to Target is in order, though, for some some new, hip exercise clothes. If I’m going to put forth this much energy, honey, you better believe I’m gonna look hot.

In order to stay on schedule, I must line up friends to walk with me. If I commit, I’ll do it. If not, I’ll find yet another closet to clean out or some files to re-arrange. Anything not to exercise.

I’m totally with you on the hate, hate, hate part. But you already have a walking partner. Hint: he’s in the picture above.

I’d LOVE to walk with you and add walking to my routine. Too bad the geographical distance. But keep it up. Put your favorite tunes on that make you want to dance, and you’ll be able to get through it. Then after a while, your body won’t want you to stop walking.

What’s the little fella’s name in the pic? How old is he and did he hold out on the mile walk?

That is Frank, my little wiener dog. He is 12. He held out better than I did, love walking.
