New Orleans: Musts

My FB/Bloggin’ friend just sent me a tip on where to find the city’s best Bloody Marys. Her message reminded me that I need to keep everyone’s recommendations somewhere handy. Here we go, and Michelle, you lead the pack:

Somethin’ Else Cafe: “although slow to arrive” the “food is worth the wait.” French Toast, Crab Cakes, Bloody Marys . . . read more from Michelle’s blog. My kind o’ place!

My high school buddy, Joanne Word, visited Busters way back when. Although it has since closed, their award-winning Red Beans & Rice recipe made it into Southern Living’s Best Recipes. Here’s the recipe!

And from dear Amanda, Irene’s. mmmmmmmmmmmmmm so so good! Panéed oysters and grilled shrimp, veal cannelloni, cioppino!

Kim, my NOLA-native friend, recommends “Mother’s, Acme, and Felix‘s.

From first-hand experience, I’ll add Ste. Marie’s. Get the shrimp and grits. Oh, and the alligator soup, too! Read more.

Uh-oh, so my friend Susan from Arab, Alabama, recommends the Carousel Bar in the Hotel Monteleone, on Royal Street. You gotta read this article – some of the reporter’s ‘fuzziest’ memories are from “the only bar in New Orleans that revolves around the room.” I surely can’t imagine a room spinning, can you?

A blogging friend, Joel, says: “. . . the best Bloody Mary in New Orleans comes from “Molly’s at the Market” by the French Market.” Frozen Irish coffees? Yum!

Jane claims that the best Po’ Boys in the City are from Domilise’s. NOLACuisine says “Nothing gets a lover of New Orleans cuisine more misty eyed than dreaming about a good Po-Boy” – be sure and scroll down and see the looks of the place! Must be good.

Peeps: feel free to leave me other recommendations in this comment area or on Facebook. You know me, I don’t want to miss a thing while in New Orleans.
