9 more days but who’s counting

friends! Don't ya love 'em!

Two days ago, Parsons called and told me they had cancelled my class. I was devastated.

Within minutes of posting my disappointment on Facebook, I had friends calling me on the phone and posting this one message: “You are going anyway!” Yep, my apartment was paid for, I had my airline ticket. Come hell or high water, I was still going to get on that airplane headed to NYC.

I’ve spent the last two days looking through the summer class offerings at Columbia, NYU, Cooper Union, and Pratt. I’ve found professional organizations like Art Director Club of NY, AIGA, The Advertising Club – they have some very interesting seminars on tap while I’m in the city. I even found a blogging school.

Maybe this is better. I’ll get a real smorgasbord of classes. Who knows, maybe I had bitten off too much from the beginning, I don’t know.

One thing I know for sure – I’ll have lots more time to walk the streets of New York. I can poke my head in more stores. I’ll have more time to get to know the man in the corner market and the lady in the cleaners. Most importantly, I’ll have more time to myself, in pure quiet, to figure out where my next steps will take me.

I love what my friend, Kym E, says. “Lisa – don’t you know that Plan B is better than Plan A could ever be?? It’s true. You just gotta believe.”

I think she’s right.

You were not meant to be sitting in a classroom this summer! NYC is the ultimate classroom – enjoy the freedom and soak up the creativity.
