Ah! Romance in Paris
I was in our local garden shop today when I ran into an old friend, Tony. Bless his heart, he has faithfully followed the journals of my walks through New York and New Orleans – so he naturally asked what my next adventure would bring.
When I answered with “Paris – in September,” a wide grin came across his face. “You must promise me you’ll do me one favor when you get to Paris.” He continued, “You must go the Bois de Vincennes, the big park in the 12th arrondissement. Enter from the Daumesnil way and it’s the first bench. That’s where I proposed to my wife.”
Tony: I’ll tweet you a photo of that famous bench. I promise!

After a bit of research, I see that the Bois de Vincennes is located in the southeast corner of Paris. It covers 2400+ acres which makes it almost three times larger than New York’s Central Park! This immense park contains the only medieval royal castle still standing in France ~ complete with its own moat and dungeon.
Today it hosts weekend jazz concerts, a 35-acre zoo (the largest in France), two large lakes with islands, six theatres, a racetrack, a Buddhist temple, an amusement park . . . not to mention acres of lush lawns and flower gardens. (see photos on Pinterest)
Put money on this one: I’ll spend an entire day at this Parc, plus an evening enjoying one of those jazz concerts.
I love these ‘insider’ tips. Please share!
